A massive iceberg is drifting in the Weddell Sea having detached itself from an Antarctic Peninsula ice shelf. The iceberg is calculated to be larger than Luxembourg and is estimated to weigh one trillion tonnes.

Scientists discovered the iceberg when studying satellite data of the area of the Larsen ice shelf. The ‘calving’ of this mountain of ice has reduced the size of the Larsen ice shelf to the smallest it has been since records began.
