  • My kids’ school uses the term incursion in this context too. While I can understand the usefulness of finding a single word to denote vists to the school by external parties to conduct activities for students, the use of the word ‘incursions’ for this purpose seems illogical to me given the general definition of incursion as a hostile invasion or attack.

The notion that incursion is a kind of opposite of excursion is fallacious; that would suggest that an ex-cursion is an external cursion while in-cursion is an internal cursion; but there is no such word as cursion in the English dictionary. An excursion is a trip; an incursion is an attack; it’s as simple as that.

But do I have an alternative single word to suggest? Alas I do not.
